Pharaoh had his pyramids, Trump wants a wall
Re: “For proof that a wall works, look at Israel”, Have Your Say, yesterday.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has praised Trump’s plan to build a border wall, saying a fence built along Israel’s border with Egypt has been a “great success” in keeping out migrants from African nations.
But a 9-metre-high wall that stretches 3,000 kilometres along the US-Mexico border could cost scores of billions of dollars.
If built, the US should try to make something special out of it, like a monument of some sort, or a tourist attraction, or an American cultural icon, or the Wonder of the Modern World. But I’m sure the Mexicans would want to leave that open.
I was going to suggest making it the world’s largest rock climbing wall, but that would defeat the purpose, wouldn’t it?
