We Thais have our own way of coping with hot political news

We Thais have our own way of coping with hot political news

Re: “Activist group pushes for dissolution of Thai Raksa Chart over nomination of Princess”, Breaking News, February 10.

A few Thai-language newspapers have turned to publishing mantras from the country’s various revered monks instead of printing the fast-changing political news of the moment. As examples, here are two of the mantras:
“A vulture can fly so high and so magnificently; but once hungry, it can swiftly change course and swoop down to feast on a rotten dog’s carcass.”
“Lust and carnal desire can lead to far-reaching conflagrations”.
Hence, for Thais right now, it is time to take down these sacred teachings and be resigned to what’s going on – for a while.
