Re: “The solution to Thailand’s dog problem: stop buying them”, Have Your Say, April 23.

Eric Bahrt’s call for an end to all dog breeding, and for all remaining dogs to be spayed or neutered, would have only one logical and eventual outcome: no more dogs. Since time immemorial dogs and human beings have interacted in so many ways. In more recent times dogs have been specially trained to detect drugs, to search for people trapped after natural disasters, to act as guides for blind or disabled people. Then there are the vast numbers of people around the world who enjoy the companionship of their pet dogs. Why should the enjoyable and very useful relationship between dogs and people be obliterated simply because a minority of people mistreat or neglect these wonderful animals? Better enforcement of animal welfare regulations is the best way forward.

I am sure that I am not alone in being utterly sick and tired of these “animal rights” extremists continually agitating for their crazy policies to be imposed on the rest of us.
