As a Thai who was born and has lived here for more than seven decades, I am lucky to have had two fathers: my biological dad and the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
When I was a child, my real father was my spiritual and intellectual guiding figure. However, when he died, I was impressed that King Rama IX was working tirelessly for the betterment of his subjects – as well as giving us guidance and assistance in making our lives better.
That is why Thais call our late king “Father”.
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was the best king Thailand and its people have ever had.
That being said, there will always be a minority who fail to recognise the most positive thing in their lives, perhaps because they experienced bad parenting in their younger days, or else are simply blind to goodness.
