Sri Lanka’s celebrated Ministry of Crab sidles into Bangkok

Sri Lanka’s celebrated Ministry of Crab sidles into Bangkok

New to the Thai dining scene if not the actual government, award-winning Sri Lankan seafood restaurant chain Ministry of Crab will open a branch in Bangkok on December 1.

Anticipating keen interest, the outlet will start accepting reservations on Saturday (November 16).
Founded in Colombo in 2011 by chef Dharshan Munidasa and cricket legends Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara, Ministry of Crab was soon drawing hordes of seafood fanciers with its mud crabs and king prawns.
It has been listed among Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants since 2015, claiming 35th position this year and No 1 in Sri Lanka itself.
The Bangkok branch in the Sam-ed Building on Sukhumvit Road Soi 31 promises “no-frills, casual and spontaneous” dining in a colonial-style setting inspired by the Colombo flagship.
The two-storey restaurant will have an open kitchen and seating for 30 on the ground floor and an upstairs bar with room for 56 more guests.
The mud crab comes in different-sized portions, ranging from half a kilogram to the 2kg Crabzilla, which can be enjoyed in the form of Pepper Crab, Garlic Chilli Crab or other styles.
You can get a half-dozen black tiger prawns or the 600g Prawnzilla.
The menu will also feature chicken curry rice, oyster sixers and clams.
