'PTT Way' to continue after CEO Prasert's tearful farewell

There were tears in the eyes of Prasert Bunsumpun yesterday as he handed over the reins to Pailin Chuchottaworn and encouraged the new chief executive officer to continue striving to keep PTT an international Thai energy company.

At a farewell party for Prasert Bunsumpun, president and CEO of PTT, more than 100 executives attended his retirement send-off. Prasert was so moved he couldn't hold back his tears.

In his farewell speech, he said: "In the past 30 years with PTT and eight years as president, PTT has been my second home. Over the years I've been very impressed with the cooperation from our executives and staff to move our organisation to grow as outlined in the guidelines that we've laid out.

"I'm confident that Dr Pailin will bring our organisation continued success. And further I want to say I love PTT and I love all of you."

Prasert initiated PTT to engage in workshops that were attended by more than 100 executives to form a unique work style. PTT Way is a collection of best practices from global energy companies and was adapted to suit the needs of PTT.

He also mentioned that after his retirement, he would take a rest with his family and then do what he could to help society and PTT in any role where he could best contribute. He plans to maintain strong ties to PTT, but acting more as a cheerleader than anything else.

Pailin Chuchottaworn said he would continue with the PTT Way as a guide for executives to strive to reach PTT goals. He further confirmed his confidence in the knowledge and experience of PTT staff.

The last eight years of Prasert as president saw the national energy company become a major international energy player, with a value of Bt2 trillion. This accounted for an estimated 25 per cent of the stock market.

Revenue last year reached Bt2 trillion. PTT ranked 128th on the Fortune Global 500 list. The company received many awards for its leadership and vision, which enabled PTT to become a truly international organisation.
