NBTC chairman, vice chairmen elected

ACM Thares Punsri was voted yesterday in as NBTC chairman, with Col Natee Sukonrat and Col Settapong Malisuwan elected vice chairmen, taking charge of the broadcasting and telecom committees respectively.

Natee and Settapong received scores of 8 and 7 respectively in the vote. The 11 commissioners convened to cast secret ballots to select the chairman and vice chairmen yesterday. A group of commissioners reportedly met last Sunday to reach consensus as to who would assume these three top jobs.

The Senate's secretariat will inform all commissioners to resign from their current posts to become NBTC commissioners and is expected to send their names to Prime Minister Yingluck on September 19.

Sutipol Taweechaikarn, Pol Col Taweesak Ngamsanga, and Col Settapong Malisuwan have already resigned from their current positions.

The Council of State will convene today (Tue) and decide how Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra would proceed with the name list of 11 commissioners.

This comes after the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) accepted to look into as a special case the complaint against the alleged unlawful process of selecting the final NBTC candidates.
