SPPs targeted for latest GE gas-turbine

GE Energy has introduced its latest gas-turbine product to Thailand, aiming to tap small power producers (SPPs) who are investing to provide electricity to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat).

The GE FlexAero LM6000-PH is a 50 megawatt gas turbine, which uses its latest turbine technology in its LM 6000 portfolio.

Darryl L Wilson, vice president of GE Power & Water Aero Products, said that there are around 39 SPP projects, each with capacity of between 100MW and 120MW, which are investing to provide a total of 3,500MW of electricity to Egat during the next four to five years.

They are the company's target group for its latest gas-turbine product. The company expects the product to receive an enthusiastic welcome from most of them.

Its competitors, who are also targeting the same group, include Siemens and Rolls-Royce.

GE Power has 1,600 staff worldwide, with operations in 71 countries. GE Energy has operated in Thailand for more than 30 years.
