PTT units set to keep functioning if capital deluged

PTT and its operating units have prepared business-continuity plans in case the massive flood bursts into Bangkok.

Pailin Chuchottaworn, president and chief executive officer of PTT, said in a filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand yesterday that PTT’s head office and other operations were still functioning but secondary workplaces were being arranged to ensure uninterrupted functionality.
Some operations in procurement, production, storage, transport and distribution of natural gas and petroleum products have been affected by the flood.
About 6 per cent of natural-gas sales volume has been lost. The Bang Pa-in terminal in Ayutthaya has been suspended but other terminals can take over distribution.
About 8 per cent of PTT’s petrol stations and 11 per cent of its NGV (natural gas for vehicles) service stations have suspended sales.
IRPC said in its filing that to ensure business continuity and prepare for any emergency that might arise at its Bangkok office, the company has arranged a system in Rayong to support operations at its head office.
IRPC’s Ayutthaya depot has temporarily ceased operations since September 2 because of the high flood surrounding the area. Its transactions have been re-routed to depots in Rayong, Samut Prakan, Chumphon and Samut Sakhon. However, the flood has not surged into the Ayutthaya depot.
Thai Oil said in its notice that the flood in many provinces and several areas of Bangkok had not yet affected its operations. However, to prepare for any emergency that might occur, it has prepared an alternative operation site at its refinery’s office in Chon Buri’s Sri Racha district.
PTT Global Chemical reported in its filing that to prepare for any contingency, it has allowed some staff at the head office to move to work at its Rayong offices temporarily.
The company’s business operations are in Rayong, which has not yet been affected by the flooding.
