Egat governor Sutat Patmasiriwat said the agency was closely monitoring its power plant in the north of Bangkok, which has yet to be flooded.
However, he said, there was enough power for the entire country, adding that the agency had 5,000 megawatts in reserve and 1,800MW for emergency. Meanwhile, total consumption has dropped by 2,000MW to 20,000MW because many industrial zones and households are flooded. The consumption of electricity in Bangkok has dropped to 6,900MW from more than 7,000MW.
In addition, Egat has cut down the amount of water released from Bhumibhol Dam daily to 40 million cubic metres from 60 million cubic metres, while Sirikit Dam is releasing 10 million cubic metres per day from 20 million cubic metres.
Egat has also purchased One Tambon-One Product (Otop) goods for distribution to flood victims.
