SSI resumes UK furnace in Jan
Sahaviriya Steel Industries Plc (SSI) sets to recommission the furnace at its UK site on January 6, following additional refractory works and good supports from stakeholders.
As a sign of support, HRH Prince Charles, the Prince of Wales, recently visited the fully integrated iron-and-steel making facility.
Win Viriyaprapaikit, SSI Group CEO, said that the ongoing re-commissioning of Sahaviriya Steel Teesside plant has received good collaboration from all stakeholders.
According to Phil Dryden, Chief Executive of Sahaviriya Steel Industries UK Ltd's (SSI UK), the preparation for the resumption of iron and steel making has shown progress. After inspection, SSI UK is now in the process of completing the additional refractory works recently identified in the stoves.
Sahaviriya Steel Teesside plant houses the second largest blast furnace in Europe. It has an annual slab production capacity of 3.6 million tonnes.With the integration of Sahaviriya Steel Teesside plant, SSI is now ASEAN’s largest fully-integrated flat steel producer.
