Commerce to promote border trade

The Commerce Ministry will review the plan to set up the Mae Sot special economic zone in Tak, after finding unclear details, and will clearly promote investment along the border.

Deputy Commerce Minister Siriwat Kajornprasart said yesterday that the ministry has recently allowed the setting up of a working panel to reconsider the draft law establishing the Mae Sot special economic zone.
The revision is aimed at clarifying details and ensuring benefits from this special trade and investment area.

The zone is planned to span more than 5,600 rai of land under the Forestry Department’s responsibility. The area will be developed into the export-import centre for Thailand and Burma.
An industrial estate, logistics park, customs checkpoint, park and distribution centre will be constructed in this special zone.
