Thailand monitors TPP negotiations

The Commerce Ministry is monitoring the negotiations on Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership (TPP), which could give birth to a new powerful economic bloc.

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong said that at present nine countries - the US, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Peru, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam and Malaysia - have involved in the negotiations, with expectation that Japan may join later.
He said that with participation from Japan, TPP may create the bloc which constitutes one third of the global economy and may lead the world towards new trade and investment rules.
TPP may also become partial framework for the Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific (FTAAP).
