Discounts of 50% urged

The Commerce Ministry will meet with furniture and electrical-appliance producers on Friday to urge them to offer discounts of more than 50 per cent to help flood victims during the recovery period.
Deputy Commerce Minister Poom Sarapol said the ministry would gradually call for relevant businesses to reduce prices as an urgent measure to help consumers that suffered from flooding.
The discount strategy would benefit not only consumers but also enterprises, as people would buy more goods, he said.
The ministry will also try to persuade modern traders and retailers to provide clear price labels on New Year gift baskets so that consumers will be fairly treated and can make careful decisions on their purchases.

No need for nurse rooms

The Ministry of Interior has eased its regulation calling for every hotel to have a nurse room in the lobby or on the second floor, the Thai Hotels Association reported. Hotels will now be allowed to dispense with such services after the THA met with the ministry on the issue.
The association said its members disagreed with the rule, arguing that their job was to provide accommodation, not healthcare. Most hotels are able to provide first aid and quickly deliver patients to nearby hospitals as required.
