He said that a discussion with the Energy Ministry would be completed this week.
The Democrats-led government decided to waive the excise tax of Bt5.30 per litre during April and September. The Pheu-Thai government decided to extend the waiver to end-January.
Boonsong said that the extension is likely as the Energy Ministry has floated the prices of several fuel products, including NGV and LPG. It also raised the Oil Fund levies on diesel and petrol products.
"If diesel excise tax is collected, the burden would increase," he said.
Initially, the waiver may stay until end-February. But if the situation remains unfavourable, the period could be extended to end-March.
The waiver costs a Bt9 billion monthly loss in excise tax.
