Gunkul invest for leadership

Power producer Gunkul Engineering will mobilise Bt2.39 billion to finance its 30.9-megawatt solar plant, aiming to become the country's renewable-energy leader.

The company has appointed Siam Commercial Bank as its mandated lead arranger for the fund mobilisation. SCB also acts as the financial adviser to raise funds for Gunkul’s expansion plan in renewable energy such as solar and wind power.
Gunkul president Gunkul Dhum-rongpiyawut said the company had signed a contract with the Provincial Electricity Authority for the solar-plant project, construction of which is expected to be completed this year.
The company will forge ahead with full expansion of its renewable-energy business this year, he said. It will expand into wind-power generation in the future.
“Gunkul has signed a power-|purchase agreement with the Pro-vincial Electricity Authority on the 30.9MW solar-power project with an adder of Bt8 per unit for 10 years.
“The company has completed the 7.4MW phase of the 25-year power-plant project and plans to complete construction of the remaining phase of 23.5MW this year. SCB is providing financial support for the project,” Gunkul said.
SCB president Kannikar Chalita-porn said the bank had been working closely with Gunkul to understand its financial needs fully.
Fund-raising for business expansion would help boost Gunkul’s ability to cope with likely higher competition at the regional level, the bank president said.
