Brainstorming session ahead of WEF here in May-June

Local companies are preparing to strut their success stories when Thailand hosts the World Economic Forum on East Asia 2012 from May 30 to June 1.

Deputy Prime Minister Kittiratt |Na-Ranong said yesterday after a meeting with Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and 42 companies that |the convention would focus on flourishing fields such as tourism, telecommunications, health and beauty, and |energy.
To get ready for the big event, with leading WEF members in the region in attendance, the country will hold |the Thai Economic Forum as a brainstorming session for companies. |There they can share their views on where the economy is heading.
Yingluck reiterated her wish that the World Economic Forum on East Asia would be a stage to restore investor |confidence in Thailand after the disastrous floods. She also encouraged more Thai companies to apply for WEF membership, as only eight Thai entities |are among some 1,000 corporate members.
They are Bangkok Bank, Thai Airways International, Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, PTT, Thai Beverage, Central Pattana, Krung Thai Bank and Ch Karnchang.
WEF members are typically top companies within their industry and/or country, generally based on turnover in US dollars.
The typical member company is a global enterprise with more than US$5 billion in sales, although this varies by industry and region.
These members play a key role in pushing forward the global economy and solving global economic problems.
