Jetro holds job fair to support re-starts

After suffering from last year's flood disaster, about 100 Japanese businesses aim to hire 10,000 people to support the restart of their operations, said the chief of the Japan External Trade Organisation (Jetro).

It organised a job fair in Ayutthaya yesterday to seek labourers for this purpose. Setsuo Iuchi, president of Jetro Bangkok, said many Japanese companies in that province were now recovering from the floods, and needed workers to support their operations.
Japanese firms still have confidence in running businesses in this country, he said. But they are not just waiting for the government’s working plan for flood prevention – they have devised their own plans to protect their factories in the future.
Overall, Japanese investment will increase in Thailand, although there may be some relocation to other areas.
Japanese firms still plan to invest more in Thailand in various sectors, particularly the automotive and electronics industries, he said.
In addition, Jetro Bangkok has asked the Commerce Ministry to help protect Japanese intellectual-property rights under the Japan-Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement.
Iuchi said that as the major foreign investors in Thailand are from Japan, the promotion of IP protection would help boost trade between the two countries under the Jtepa.
