Tirathai eyes government projects worth Bt6.3 bn

Tirathai is planning to join the bidding for some government projects worth Bt6.3 billion to boost its sales of electric transformers by 20 per cent this year.

Sumpan Vongphan, managing director of the local company, said yesterday that of the projects, the Provincial Electricity Authority II accounted for more than Bt1 billion, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand for Bt800 million and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority for Bt1.8 billion. There is still some bidding for projects of companies.

Orders are piling up from both old and new customers. Out of the company’s Bt900-million backlog, government projects account for Bt350 million, projects for companies for Bt400 million and exports for the rest.

"We’ll continue to enjoy business growth for another year thanks to the high value of backlogged jobs. And the market is expanding in all areas. We’ll try to maintain our market share as part of our risk-management strategy," Sumpan said.

The company is also focusing on keeping its profit margin at 20-25 per cent or above.

Tirathai E&S Co was launched to assemble cherry pickers and hydraulic crane trucks. It has an agreement worth more than Bt200 million to supply hydraulic crane trucks to the Metropolitan Electricity Authority.

Tirathai’s major state customers are still electricity utilities, but it is planning to land more projects for district administrative bodies, with a target of Bt200 million in sales.
