Lions Club supports tree plantation

Out of concern for deforestation, Lions Club Section 310C, in cooperation with Khao Khiew sanctuary in Chon Buri, is mobilising support to increase the forest area by 190 rai in five years to commemorate His Majesty the King's 85th birthday in 2012.

This follows the Lions International programme to grow 1 million trees worldwide, as the club is expanding its scope of interest from society to environment.
Under the “Planting a Million Trees” campaign, Lions in Thailand will grow trees in Chachoengsao (85 rai) and Chon Buri (105 rai).
A research shows that Thailand lost 70 million rai of forest area in 2011, or 20 per cent of total forest area. From 1961-2009, the east of Thailand suffered the most from deforestation, which accounted for 37 per cent of total.
