In order to communicate effectively, you need to understand the perspectives of other parties on that subject.
Harith Pichyangkura, Triple T BroadBand’s vice president for marketing and customer relationships, believes strongly in the benefit of seeing the world from a different perspective. Though it may not be an easy task, it can provide a broader point of view and you may end up with better decision-making in your business.
Judging from his appearance and career, Harith comes across as a modern businessman who probably learned to have different perspectives from popular universities or challenging business experiences. But only a few know that apart from those sources, he also learned it from what he does in his leisure time – collecting antiques.
“Collecting antiques is about studying history and the factors that made your antique pieces valuable. It is about learning the story behind them, appreciating the historic and emotional value more than the monetary value attached to it,” he says.
Antique collection involves knowing the eras these pieces are from. He says knowing that will put more meaning and value to the pieces. And when an interested guest or visitor visits his place, he can very ably tell the history behind it.
Luckily, his wife also enjoys this hobby as she is an interior designer. So, both of them like to buy the antiques from whichever place they visit, such as the Northern part of Thailand.
They appreciate art in all forms. But their favourite one is a ceramic idol of Ganesh from an antique store in Chaing Rai.
“Before buying any piece, we must ensure that it suits our fancy and budget, which I judge by my gut feeling. Somewhere along the way, some of the collectors may be caught between keeping the collection for themselves or showing it to the whole world for everyone to appreciate. But for me, I keep my collection for my family only,” he adds.
“Antiques are not obsolete. They all have a history behind them, which we can learn from. Don’t be afraid to experiment and see the world from another point of view. Let’s start looking for ways to get a different angle on things,” he suggests.
