Bangchan and Amata City as eco-towns

The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) are prepared to turn Bangchan Industrual Estate and Amata City to eco-towns, in line with growing calls for peaceful coexistence of industrial development and environment conservation.

IEAT GovernorVeerapong Chaiperm said that the agency is now preparing benchmarks for the industrial estates and factories, to ensure that they do not harm the environment. The 22 benchmarks are focused on 5 aspects - physical location, economic, social, environmental and management.

Likely to be upgraded to another eco-town is Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, he said.

The upgrade is in line with the 10-year national industrialisation plan (2010-2019).
