GM's plant in Rayong rolls out first Trailblazer
General Motors Thailand's (GM) production line in Rayong has rolled out the first all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer and many more are expected for sale in Thailand and more than 50 markets across Southeast Asia and beyond.
The facility employs 5,200 workers. Together with key suppliers and dealers, they greeted the new diesel SUV. Based on General Motors’ new global body-on-frame midsize truck architecture, the seven-seat Trailblazer features premium ride comfort and handling dynamics for urban and highway driving, matched by superior off-road capabilities.
“The Trailblazer will be built in Thailand for Thailand, and soon also make its way into the rest of the world. And delivery of the Trailblazer to our customers starts right now,” said Martin Apfel, president of GM Thailand/Southeast Asia. "The Trailblazer is strong and capable. Ready for rugged off-road conditions but equally well-mannered for city and long distance road trips. It’s yet another world-class Chevrolet product that demonstrates the capability, commitment and attention to detail of our dedicated Thai workforce.”
According to Apfel, parts suppliers are ready to support GM, and the expected demand for the Trailblazer. As much as 70 percent of the Trailblazer’s parts will be sourced locally from Thai suppliers.
“Production is now getting into full-swing. Since May this year, we have added a third shift to our assembly and powertrain plants,” he continued. “The increase in production isn’t just to meet customer orders for the Trailblazer, but also to address increasing demand for the Colorado truck, which we have started exporting earlier this year. At the same time, demand for other models is also growing. This will be a very busy year for Chevrolet.”
“We will also continue to look for more skilled workers to join us, as we respond to the increased demand for our products, locally and overseas.” Apfel added.
The Trailblazer will be available in seven exterior colours: Summit White, Black Sapphire, Sizzle Red – which will especially please the fans of our new sports partner Manchester United--, Auburn Brown, Blue Mountain, Royal Gray and Switchblade Silver.
Locally, the Trailblazer is priced in the range of Bt1-Bt1.49 million.
