The ministry today revealed that inflation in June went up 2.56 per cent from the same period last year and 0.16 percent month on month. The six-month figure was only 2.95 per cent.
The ministry targets 3.3-3.8 per cent inflation this year.
Commerce Permanent Secretary Yanyong Phuangrach said inflation should rise further in the remaining months of the year following strong economic growth. But influencing this could be global economy and natural disasters.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile energy and food prices, rose 1.9 per cent year on year in June. It rose 2.37 per cent in the first six months. Higher inflation in the first half was attributable mainly to higher food prices.
