Chaos at public hearing on unlicensed radio

National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission's broadcasting committee has proceeded with the public hearing on unlicensed community radio stations, despite chaos when some participants walked out and threatened to oust the commissioners.

At nearly 3pm, some participants seized the floor, discontented over the proposal that all 6,000 registered stations must transmit the signal at the frequency of no more than 200 watts, according to Supinya Klangnarong, a commissioner.

In her tweets, Supinya said that the boardcasting committee received petitions from several groups of radio operators. During that there was an upheaval when some discontented groups yelled and seized floor. Some walked out of the room and NBTC commissioners were escourted out of the room. Police were posted to maintain peace. Some of the operators, led by Nikom Boonviset, also threatened to seek 10,000 signatures to oust the commissioners.
The commodation led to a temporary stop of the public hearing. It was resumed about an hour later.
At 4.31pm, a participant asked the NBTC to allow advertising.
