Central banking amid global changes

Central banks' role and monetary tools would be the focus of the Bank of Thailand Symposium 2012, hosted amid intensifying crisis in the Euro area.

Paiboon Kittisrikangwan, assistant governor of Bank of Thailand (BOT), said that the symposium themed "Central Banking Amidst Global Changes" would answer three issues: (1) Bank of Thailand's role and policy, at the time when the institution celebrates the 70th anniversary (2) central banks' ability to cope with changing conditions through conventional mission and approaches, and (3) the appropriateness of monetary policy framework for Thailand.
He said that academics and public figures are welcomed to express their fact-based opinions, to lead to improvement.
The symposium will take place during September 24-25 at Centara Grand.
The first part of the even will be dedicated to the presentation of 5 research papers by BOT staff; dealing with the central bank's mission and role, monetary policies and tools, financial stability, central banks' financial status, and monetary system and economic growth.
The second part will feature a seminar, joined by Former BOT Governor MR Pridiyathorn Devakula, also former deputy prime minister and finance minister; former finance minister Thirachai Phuvanat-naranubala; and former commerce minister and former member of Monetary Policy Committee Narongchai Akrasanee.
