The Excise Department is confident that when the scheme launched late last year is over, booking would reach 425,000 units.
The first-car buyer scheme will be the highlight of the government's showcase of its populist policies at the Rajamangkala Stadium during August 25-26. Twelve automakers will join the show.
The scheme - covering pickups below Bt1 million and passenger cars with 1.5-litre engine - has been considered a big boost to the Thai automotive market, which in July achieved a new monthly record sale of over 130,000 units. The scheme would cover all bookings struck before the end of this year.
Automakers said that as the project will end soon, this would rush potential buyers to make a decision. Much of the demand is for passenger cars, which promise maximum tax deduction of Bt100,000.
