Insiders named BOT's deputy governors

Bank of Thailand appointed veteran employees as deputy governors, quashing earlier speculation that outsiders may be appointed.
Tongurai Limpiti, assistant governor for the Financial Institutions Group, and Pongpen Ruengvirayudh, assistant governor for the Financial Markets Operations Group, are promoted as the deputy governors, effective on October 1, 2012.
The BOT's board of governors endorsed the appointments at the meeting today.
Earlier, it was speculated that outsiders may assume the roles of retiring Suchada Kirakul and Sorasit Soontornkes who will become president of the Deposit Protection Agency. As both sit in the 7-member Monetary Policy Committee, the policy-rate setter, there were fears that the central bank's independence would be interfered.
