SCBAM aims to lead private fund industry

SCB Asset Management aims to be the leader of the |private-fund industry by 2014 after companies started using more services from private-fund-management companies.

“We have been trusted by many institutions in the areas of education, business and life insurance, and major private and public organisations,” Pote Harinasuta, executive vice president for private funds, said yesterday.
“We have been also trusted by leading educational institutions to manage their funds, such as Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University and Mae Fah Luang University.”
SCBAM has already leapt from ninth place in 2009 to second last year.
In 2012, the fund company grew by 12.9 per cent, compared with the industry average of 1.8 per cent.
It had private funds under management totalling Bt38.64 billion, good for a 12-per-cent market share. In 2009 it only had Bt3 billion under management.
“The outstanding point of SCBAM is that we can serve completely the requirements of our clients both for asset allocation and investment strategy,” Pote said.
“We also have an international investment advisory service with the ability to provide advice on any foreign investment of our clients.
“We are also a leader in the market managing assets worth nearly Bt700 billion, which allows us to enjoy economies of scale and bargaining power for any investment.
“We also have good know-how on operating and work-class risk management,” he said.
The private-fund industry shows continued growth potential as authorities or investment committees of private institutions have a tendency to employ professional firms to manage their funds, he added.
