April to see more foreign tourists

The number of inbound travellers to Thailand is anticipated to increase by 18.6 per cent this month to about 2 million and generate Bt83.7 billion in revenue, up 20 per cent over April 2012, according to Kasikorn Research Centre.
About 700,000 of those inbound visitors, or 35 per cent, intend to enjoy the Songkran Festival running from yesterday to Tuesday, an increase of 16.7 per cent, which will generate revenue of about 29.3 billion, up 18.1 per cent over Songkran last year.

ERC eyes Khanom
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is expected to determine the price of power from Electricity Generating Public Company’s new Khanom power plant in Nakhon Si Thammarat this month.
Commissioner Boonsong Kerdklang said Egco had submitted a proposed price, while the regulator had hired a consultant to calculate the price on the basis that it must not exceed those of plants of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat) or other independent power producers.
The ERC passed a resolution to allow Egco to build the new plant with capacity of 900 megawatts to replace the existing one of 748MW, whose term will end in 2016, without the need to bid for the right to sell electricity to Egat.

Siam Steel JV
Siam Steel International has formed a joint venture with Orient Corporation to set up Siam Steel OC Co with a registered capital of Bt2 million at par value of Bt100 per share.
Siam Steel will hold 51 per cent of the new firm, and Orient Corp the rest. Siam Steel’s investment budget will come from its cash flow.
Siam Steel OC Co will supply prefabricated buildings, partitions and related products, and industrial parts and related products to its customers in Thailand and Asean. The new company will be set up this month, director Surasak Kunanantakul said.
