Chief financial officer Dam Nana said yesterday that in the first three months of the year, the company booked a net profit of Bt68 million.
Revenue at the TV business, which is part of the media group, soared 73 per cent to Bt205 million over the first quarter of last year as its quality programmes via its satellite TV channels improved their ratings and attracted more viewers, he said.
RS’s five satellite channels are Channel 8, Sabaidee TV, You Channel, Star Max Channel and Sun Channel.
According to Nielson Media Research, RS’s satellite TV channels saw rises of 17 per cent in viewers in April from the previous month and 100 per cent from the same month last year.
Radio revenue jumped 45 per cent year on year to Bt103 million, because of the addition of two stations – Sabaidee Radio 88.5 and Cool Celsius 91.5. Also contributing to the growth was the increase in advertising rates by RS’s most popular radio station, Cool Fahrenheit 93, which has been constantly organising activities for fans such as Cool Outing 8 and Cool Music Alive, both of which received an overwhelming response from sponsors.
Thanks to satellite TV and radio, RS’s media business pocketed Bt315 million last quarter, up 35 per cent from the same period last year.
RS’s music revenue rose 16 per cent year on year to Bt254 million. Its music-streaming service Deezer is expanding at a fast clip due to the launch of third-generation cellular services by all mobile operators, which allows easier access to this service, making it more popular.
This quarter, the company will focus on its rapidly growing media business, both TV and radio.
For its music business, it will continue to produce quality songs and offer more services to keep up with the changing technologies, Dam said.
In show business, a mega-concert called RS Meeting Concert Return 2013 has been scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
“We are confident that all our businesses will meet the targets and keep growing,” he said.
