With these disturbing figures in mind, Toyota Motor Thailand and Honda Automobile (Thailand) have been in the forefront in promoting road safety awareness among Thai motorists.
Toyota recently signed a deal to create the third and fourth traffic-model cities in the North and the South, to mark the 50th anniversary of its presence in the Kingdom.
As part of the “White Road” campaign launched 25 years ago, the model cities aim to raise awareness on traffic rules among the youth.
The first two cities covered by the scheme are Bangkok (since 2004) and Nakhon Ratchasima, while the two new cities are Phitsanulok and Nakhon Si Thammarat.
Toyota executive Suparat Sirisuwannangkura said some 1.5 million children had been brought to the first two model cities with the objective of learning how to avoid accidents and show compassion to other road users. This knowledge is then shared with their families and communities.
Meanwhile, from April to September, Honda is hosting 10 training courses to promote road-safety awareness, targeting first-car buyers – regardless of whether they are Honda clients. These new motorists will get safety tips and learn about the equipment that came with their cars. The first course took place in Bangkok on April 20. More such courses, free of charge, will be held in Chon Buri, Songkhla, Phitsanulok, Ubon Ratchathani, Surat Thani and Khon Kaen.
