Ampon Kittiampon, the board’s chairman, said yesterday that the workshop would be held on July 27 to discuss in detail major risks to its operations, such as foreign-exchange fluctuations, revamping unprofitable routes, and fuel costs.
Ampon has assigned Chokchai Panyayong, THAI’s senior executive vice president for commercial, to define ‘‘a rescue plan’’ for the workshop. At the event, the board will help brainstorm on a strategy to achieve its sales revenue of Bt224 billion with a net profit of Bt6 billion.
Chokchai acknowledged that exchange rates carried the most risk for the national carrier and could hurt its financial performance for the entire year.
With a worse-than-projected low season in the second quarter, the national carrier is keen to tackle any financial risks that could emerge.
THAI will begin implementing its new strategy next month after the workshop is concluded.
At its next meeting in August, it is expected that the board will assess the performance of Sorajak Kasemsuvan, THAI’s president, who has now been in office for six months.
