Tourism to assist compensation negotiation

The Tourism and Sports Ministry vows to be the coordinator for PTT Global Chemical and tourism business operators in Koh Samet which are affected by the oil spill.

Saying from the island after a meeting with the operators, he said that the ministry and Tourism Authority of Thailand would help the operators seek compensation from PTTGC as well as negotiate with commercial banks for an extension in loan repayment.
Chairat Trirattanajarasporn, chairman of the Rayong Tourist Association, said that the oil spill should shave off the annual tourism revenue by Bt3 billion, from the Bt20 billion target. The province originally targeted 6 million visitors this year.
Visitors remain at other parts of Samet while hotels still hold bookings for about 2,000 rooms, said Somsak.
The TAT plans "Kok Kak" tour on August 17, whereby volunteers are invited for a free trip to Ao Phrao, as part of the strategy to restore public confidence.
