Witnessed by Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, the MoU will see la Rinascente serve as a hub for imported Thai products in Europe as well as a showcase of the best Thailand has to offer. La Rinascente is a leading Italian operator of luxury department stores under the management of CRC.
“Product development in terms of quality and design is vital to any effort to expand into international markets as well as the creation of world-class Thai brands,” said Busaba Chirathivat, CRC senior vice president of corporate communications.
“La Rinascente has been chosen as the hub for promoting Thai products because of its reputation as a 150-year-old provider of high-quality and world-class products from leading brands, with more than 7 million visitors to its stores each year. In addition, la Rinascente is based in Milan, whose fashion scene has long been a major attraction for consumers seeking to experience the latest and greatest.
“Through availability at la Rinascente, Thai products can achieve global recognition for their world-class quality and design.”
MOU
According to the MoU, the Department of International Trade Promotion, CRC and la Rinascente agreed to:
1. Promote Thai products and services, especially food products, gifts and home decorative items, at La Rinascente stores in Italy through activities such as in-store promotion, with a view to supporting the Thai government’s relevant projects, especially “Thailand – Kitchen of the World” and “One Tambon One Product” (OTOP), for the benefit of Thais living in rural areas;
2. Facilitate global sourcing activities in Thailand to enhance trade and export of Thai products to the world;
3. Realise the untapped opportunities for expansion of Thai exports to Italy and other European markets in compliance with their laws and regulations with specific reference to safety, health and consumer protection, and tax rules.
“La Rinascente and the Department of International Trade Promotion will work together to make Thai products available in Italy and highlight their excellence for all the world to see,” said Alberto Baldan, chief executive of la Rinascente.
“We will support this endeavour by supplying the Thai government and the Department of International Trade Promotion with in-depth information on the traits and interests of Italian consumers as well as tourists. Armed with this knowledge, Thai entrepreneurs will be able to develop products that address the market’s demands, resulting in universal recognition and high potential for growth.”
