Training to be offered for industries

The Department of Skill Development will focus its efforts on developing a labour force for Thai industries that look set to do well in the Asean Economic Community.

“Among these industries are automobiles and tourism,” said the department’s director-general, Nakorn Silpa-archa. The AEC will materialise in 2015-16. He said his department would also focus on industries that are crucial to national development, such as the logistics sector.
Nakorn spoke at a workshop this month on the skill-development plan for the 2014 fiscal year.
In preparation for the AEC, his department will also provide English and Asean language classes for about 20,000 workers.
He said the department had allocated more than Bt2 billion for its operations in fiscal 2014. The department plans to develop the skills of more than 3.47 million workers during the period.
Nakorn said the department planned to work closely with the private sector and local administrative bodies.  “Companies and local administrative organisations can contact us for budget support and advice if they have come up with plans to provide skill-development training for their staff,” he said.
