The market leader in the TV broadcasting industry seeks to increase the amount of time its viewers spend watching the channel in order to boost revenue during the period.
Advertising rates in Channel 7’s prime-time period from 6pm to 10.30pm are more than Bt530,000 per minute. Normally, from 6pm to 6.30pm, Channel 7 airs Thai dramas for kids and families.
To hold on to its viewers, BBTV managing director Palakorn Somsuwan said the TV station would debut a new TV series for this audience from 6.30pm to 7.40pm, Monday to Friday.
After the nightly news, Channel 7 will dedicate 2 hours and 10 minutes to super-prime-time soap operas. The broadcaster will also produce new entertainment-news shows to support its drama and other entertainment programmes, to be aired at 10.30am and 3pm on weekdays.
No hike in ad fees
The executive said the company has no plan to raise advertising fees for the time being, as it has raised ad rates in some slots over the past couple of months.
The company will also revamp its TV schedule to meet changes in viewer demand, particularly on weekends.
In preparation for the coming era of digital terrestrial TV broadcasting, driven by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), last month the board of BBTV resolved that the company should bid for a licence for a high-definition (HD) variety channel, while its subsidiary BBTV Satelvision will bid for a licence for a standard-definition (SD) variety channel.
The companies bought bidding documents last month and intends to join the bidding for both TV licences, believing it is well prepared in terms of content, staff and equipment.
The NBTC will auction 24 licences for commercial terrestrial digital TV channels in the middle of December. Seven are HD variety channels, three are SD children’s channels, seven are SD news channels, and seven are SD variety channels.
