Further slide in import-export activities

Thailand's export value in the first eight months of this year showed a 1.36 per cent decrease from the same period last year, as the August figures were the lowest in 32 months.

Export in August continued its decline for the second month in a row. At US$18.94 billion, the August exports dropped by 7.4 per cent from the same period last year, according to the Commerce Ministry's data.
In the first eight months, combined export value stood at $150.54 billion (Bt4.84 trillion), despite the ministry's target to boost annualised exports by 3.5 per cent. To show a 0.5 per cent growth rate, export in the remaining four months must be average at $19.7 billion.
Also confirming slow economic activities is a decrease in imports.
Imports have also declined for 13 consecutive months. In August, the imports slid by 14.17 per cent on year to $17.79 billion. In the first eight months, the combined value dropped by 12.69 per-cent slide to $150.26 billion.
Thailand locked in trade surplus worth $1.14 billion in August and $280.8 million in the first eight months of the year.
