“Our net profit is still 77 per cent lower than the first nine months of last year. However, NMG’s performance shows a significant rebound from the first two quarters of this year, which had suffered from the political difficulty.
“In the third quarter alone, the group was able to achieve Bt34.60 million in profit,” NMG president Duangkamol Chotana said last week.
The group recorded expenses of Bt2.03 billion over the nine-month period, she said.
The easing of political tensions in Thailand has helped NMG to gradually recover along with the overall economy.
The group’s revenue in the third quarter rose 16 per cent to Bt772.4 million from Bt665.70 million in the second quarter.
However, its revenue in the first nine months is up 2 per cent over last |year.
“Despite having a quick recovery, it is a good sign that we achieved better performance in the first quarter of this year compared to the same quarter of last year.
“The major factor for our growth is advertising revenue, which is up 11 per cent in the third quarter alone to Bt544.70 million from Bt490.20 million posted in the same quarter of last year,” she said.
The group this year enjoyed larger sources of revenue – the two digital TV channels Nation TV on Channel 22 and NOW on Channel 26.
NOW in particular had received positive feedback from advertisers and viewers, who are urbanites, in just the first seven months on air.
The channel would focus on broadcasting economic, business and investment news, as well as entertainment content, which is in line with the urban lifestyle.
“NOW, which has a clear viewer target, is able to achieve a significant contribution to the growth of NMG in just the first six months of operation.
“The channel is another milestone for the group,” she added.
