Crowd-funding watch
The Securities and Exchange Commission is seeking public comment on a proposal on crowd-funding supervision, aiming to introduce a new fund-raising channel for small and medium sized enterprises, especially innovative start-ups.
The proposed supervision would allow those enterprises to offer for sale shares and debentures through regulated funding portals and low cost. The funds raised through this channel would facilitate their business expansion and development as well as foster their competitive edge at the domestic and international levels. As a result, more jobs would be created, leading to economic expansion and development of the country.
Taking into account the balance between regulatory burdens and investor protection, the proposed framework covers supervision on the operation of funding portals and suitability tests in order to mitigate fraud risks and ensure that investors are informed of risks associated with SMEs, particularly start-ups, and liquidity risks, for instance.
Slip in confidence
Consumer confidence in Thailand fell in November, a university survey showed on Thursday, in spite of low inflation and moves by the military government to boost the economy.
The consumer confidence index of the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce dropped to 79.4 in November from 80.1 in October. The slip was the second since a bloodless army coup on May 22 ended months of political unrest. For September, the index was 79.2, compared with the previous month's 80.1.
"The economy has not fully recovered," Thanavath Phonvichai, an economics professor at the university that did the confidence survey, told a news conference. "Although oil prices are cheaper, people still feel that prices of good are expensive and living costs are high." – Reuters
