Saithip Montrikul na Ayudhaya, chief executive officer of GMM Channel Digital TV, said yesterday that the company had to drop satellite-based Green Channel on January 1 to concentrate more on key businesses – A-Time Media and GMM Channel.
"Although the radio business appears to face stagnation, it still remains very attractive both for advertisers and listeners.
"More importantly, radio and business activities around it can help GMM Channel reach a wider audience," she said.
Through media integration, the company could gain synergy because of many choices to offer in its "Entertainment In Your Pocket" package for customers and advertisers.
With this flexible and customised package, GMM Channel expects to see an increase in advertising revenue while maintaining its advertising rates at last year’s level.
To improve the quality of TV programmes to attract more viewers, GMM Channel earmarks about Bt1.2 million on content development and production.
The new line-up includes the "Club Friday" show, which was developed from the most famous radio programme that used to air on Green Wave 106.5FM; "OPal Law Firm", a legal talk show; "Game Wad Duang"; "Fine the Wasabi Season 2" and Taiwanese TV series like "The Pursuit of Happiness", "Two Fathers" and "Autospy".
The channel will broadcast live audio of popular TV programmes over its radio stations.
To help raise awareness of targeted audiences, the station has also prepared Bt100 million to promote its channel through 40 digital outdoor screens, three radio stations in Bangkok and a series of on-ground activities and roadshows in the upcountry.
GMM Channel began promoting its channels from October to December with a budget of Bt19.5 million.
Besides the digital TV business, Saithip also oversees three radio stations – Green Wave 106.5FM, EFM 94 and Chill 89FM under Atime Media – and event management under Atime Showbiz, travel management under Atime Traveller and the publishing business.
Of the total targeted revenue, Bt700 million will come from GMM Channel – a digital terrestrial TV channel in standard definition – and Bt700 million from A-Time Media.
The rest will come from Atime Showbiz, Atime Traveller and the publishing unit.
