Move to boost lending to SMEs

Thai Credit Guarantee Corp seeks commercial banks' support in boosting lending to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)

Kriengkrai Chaisiriwongsuk, an executive of the agency, said that four brainstorming sessions are planned in the second and third quarters of this year, which would be attended by 800 executives and lending officers from 22 financial institutions.  They will be briefed on the agency's mission.
He hopes that this would help the agency achieve its targets in terms loan extension and the number of beneficiaries. This would extend access to finance to more SMEs, he said.
At the end of 2014, outstanding loans to SMEs totalled Bt4.4 trillion, up by Bt100 billion from the previous year.
In 2015, the agency plans to guarantee loans worth Bt80 billion to 27,000 SMEs. The guarantee is expected to boost SME lending by Bt120 billion.
