The Energy Regulatory Commission will open bidding for renewable energy next month after clarifying how much renewable energy including rooftop solar systems, garbage and hydropower will be on offer.
Weerapol Jirapraditkul, an ERC member and spokesman, said yesterday that the amount of solar energy from state-agency areas needed to be made clear as to whether the renewable-energy offer would reach 800 megawatts.
Once the offer is clarified, the ERC will proceed with bids for renewable energy with zoning.
“In the future, if more renewable energy will be purchased, zoning will be set” in regards to raw materials and fuels, he said.

nong yao field producing
Mubadala Petroleum has started production at its Nong Yao oilfield in the southern Gulf of Thailand, it said yesterday, with output to be sold into the Thai market.
The unit of Abu Dhabi state investment fund Mubadala said in a statement that production was expected to reach a peak rate of about 10,000 barrels of oil per day as more wells were completed.
Nong Yao, which it is being developed along with KrisEnergy and Palang Sophon, is Mubadala’s third operating oilfield in Thailand, along with Jasmine and Manora.
Mubadala’s gross oil production in Thailand will reach about 40,000bpd during the second half of this year, more than double the rate from a year ago and making it Thailand’s second-largest producer of black oil, it said. – Reuters
siteminder links with compass
The global hotel industry’s cloud platform, SiteMinder, has tied up with hotel-management group Compass Hospitality to solidify its presence in Southeast Asia.
Compass Hospitality operates 42 hotel properties across Thailand, Malaysia and, most recently, England with the signing of the 400-year-old The Lion Hotel Shrewsbury and The White Swan Halifax.
With an additional 15 properties under development, the Bangkok-based group says it has aggressive growth plans for Southeast Asia, Europe and other regions.
SiteMinder is a key driver to the expansion of its portfolio, which comprises hotels, serviced apartments, resorts and spas.
Kevin Tatem, director of Asian sales at SiteMinder, said on Wednesday that local hotel owners and marketers such as Compass Hospitality, who now have access to global travellers, were poised to benefit most from these plans.
