Netherlands signs contract with Hytera to upgrade TETRA network

THE Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice recently started to upgrade its nationwide emergency communication network by signing its first contract with Hytera Mobilfunk for the refurbishment of its TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) network.

International manufacturers have been promoting solutions including TETRA and DMR (digital mobile radio) technology in Thailand in recent years. Aeronautical Radio of Thailand, a state enterprise under the Transport Ministry, has supplied Hytera TETRA radios for Bangkok’s two international airports. It is expected that the communication terminals will be used in more and more Thai airports and the oil and gas industries.

As one of Europe’s first nationwide TETRA systems, the one in the Netherlands has played a significant role in emergency response and routine operations of police, fire and ambulance services.

Matthias Klausing, president and chief executive of Hytera Mobilfunk, said TETRA was an open standard developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute. The main purpose of the TETRA standard is to define a series of open interfaces, as well as services and facilities, in sufficient detail to enable independent manufacturers to develop infrastructure and terminal products that can fully inter-operate as well as meet the needs of organisations using traditional mobile radio.

Founded in 1993 in Shenzhen, China, Hytera operates in more than 80 countries and regions across the world. Hytera Mobilfunk is its subsidiary in Germany.
