MORE THAN 3,000 small independent hotels in Thailand are set to join a new virtual online hotel chain, Nida Rooms, this year, offering extra-low rates to capture the growing budget-traveller market.

Atakawee Choosang, head of the chain for Thailand, said yesterday that more than 1,400 hotels with ore than 2.3 million room-nights annually had signed to join the reservation site, www.nidarooms.com, which is scheduled to launch next month.
Nida Rooms is targeting more than 3,000 hotels and more than 5.4 million room-nights annually across Thailand by year-end.
The website has already secured hotels in key strategically located cities including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Udon Thani, Ubon Ratchathani, Nong Kai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Maha Sarakam, Hat Yai, Phuket, Samui, Krabi, Songkhla, Pattaya, Rayong, Hua Hin, Phitsanulok and Bangkok.
Nida Rooms was incorporated in September in Malaysia with the purpose of revolutionising the Southeast Asian hospitality industry.
Dennis Melka and Kanesaran Kanesaran Avili founded the company to leverage their experience in the hospitality and travel industries, especially budget airlines.
