TV stations given greater freedom during mourning period

MEDIA bodies have revised their guidelines for advertising and content distribution to ease business conditions during the 30-day national mourning period.

After a meeting yesterday with free-to-air television operators, the broadcasting committee of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission decided to grant them greater freedom to show prime-time dramas for children and families and also paid commercials.
However, they must strictly abide by the guidelines for TV stations during the mourning period.
The Advertising and Sign Producing Association (ASPA) also released new guidelines for out-of-home advertisements.
ASPA president Chakkrit Khem-thong said the lights of all static billboards must be turned off at night during the mourning period, while digital screens must display condolence messages instead of advertising.
Other kinds of out-of-home media such as in-store, light boxes and transit media must also follow these guidelines.
The Digital Agency Association (Thailand) advised all advertisers and media agencies to suspend all online advertisements until yesterday and refrain from all entertainment-related, inappropriate and disrespectful content including those with extremely colourful visuals.
After Facebook pulled all ads last Friday, the social-media giant is resuming delivering advertising today.
