Central’s new mall in Thon Buri to serve as learning centre

CENTRAL GROUP has invested Bt250 million to build a new shopping mall, Platform Wongwianyai, to provide a learning centre as well as catering to the lifestyle needs of people in the Thon Buri area of Bangkok.

In a bid to redefine shopping in Thon Buri, Central Group will soon unveil the new mall as a replacement of the former Robinson Ladya Department Store. The modern lifestyle shopping mall promises to meet the community’s needs with shopping, dining and learning all in one place, Central says.
Not only will there be more than 100 stores and services in a prime location in the heart of Thon Buri, but its strength lies in being a station of knowledge and learning as the city’s newest mall with a variety of the country’s famous tutoring schools. The new venue will open on Christmas Day, December 25.
Lertvit Pumipitak, senior executive vice president for business development of Central Group, said Platform Wongwianyai was developed on the same site of Central Ladya Department Store, which was built 40 years ago and was subsequently replaced by Robinson Ladya Department Store in 1997.
To meet the needs of target customers who reside in Thon Buri and make the best use of this property in a densely populated location with more than 13,000 inhabitants per square kilometre – the fifth most densely populated district in Bangkok – Central Group invested Bt250 million to construct this project.
Platform Wongwianyai is a complete revamp of an existing shopping mall, making it trendier than ever, the company says. The use of the word “Platform” in its name symbolises that like a train-station platform, the venue is a meeting point and the centre of communication for people in Thon Buri.
The logo was designed to resemble a major roundabout or traffic circle (wongwianyai in Thai) to denote that it is a place that assembles all aspects related to the lifestyles of people in Thon Buri.
The project, spanning 27,820 square metres, will host more than 100 stores including Tops Market, B2S, Fit by Supersports, Mr DIY, Starbucks, Bar-B-Q Plaza, Cafe Amazon, Watsons, Beauty Buffet and many more.
However, Central says the greatest strength of this mall is being the new home to more than 18 nationally renowned tutoring schools culled from neighbouring areas, such as Pure Chem Center by Ajarn Ou, A Big Center, O-Plus, The Brain, Enconcept, Applied Physics and Ideal Physics.
There are also other complementary extracurricular courses offered by Dinsorsee Art & Design School and Kumon School.
Central says Platform Wongwianyai will be a place where families come not only for shopping and services, delicious food and beverages, but also a knowledge centre that will greatly benefit the young people living in the local community.
There is a special area called the Platform Fun Space that encourages creativity through different types of activities. It also includes plenty of space for people to learn by sharing their personal experiences in a relaxed atmosphere, the company says.
