THE CHAIRMAN of Nation Multimedia Group has denied rumours that NMG’s digital TV channel NOW26 was in the process of being terminated, while planning to put emphasis on documentaries in the meantime.
The new emphasis came after the “La Kwam Jing” (Hunt for the Truth) programme gained popularity with a relatively high rating.
Thepchai Yong, the new chairman of the NMG board, refuted the rumour of NOW26’s termination, insisting that the group’s executives were not pursuing that idea.
He said NOW26 was in the process of programme development to position itself as the country’s No 1 documentary channel. The digital TV channel was recently granted an award by Amnesty International Thailand for “Digital TV News and Factual Documentary for Promotion of Human Rights”.
After the success of “La Kwam Jing”, NOW26 will produce more fact-finding documentaries that not only report straight news, but also provide in-depth analysis. Thepchai will manage this programme category himself.
He said NOW26 planned to make more alliances in Thailand and abroad to develop a wider variety of documentaries, such as producers that specialise in specific fields including forestry, the seas, wildlife and others.
Besides the foreign partners NOW26 is coordinating with, Thailand’s own documentary producer TV Burabha will strengthen NOW26 with production of four documentaries that will be broadcast beginning in April.
