RISE EXPECTED IN LOAN DEMAND, SAYS BOT

Demand for loans from both businesses and households are rising, while financial institutions remain cautious on lending, particularly to SMEs, according to a Bank of Thailand survey on credit conditions.

Based on the survey, financial institutions expect demand for business credit in the third quarter to increase, from companies of all sizes in the food and beverages, construction and property, and transportation and warehouseing sectors.
Lending criteria for large businesses are expected to ease during the quarter. However, extra caution will likely be taken on loans to SMEs, particularly those in the agricultural and property sectors. Financial institutions will also be tightening their policy on certain consumption.
