Five startups that made a mark

IN CELEBRATION of the coming of innovative technology that improve people’s lives, The Nation has selected five startups, both local and international, from approximately 150 startups from 15 countries that attended the Digital Thailand Big Bang 2017 event last week. The companies were selected for their potential for supporting and improving the quality of life for all. They are: Omise, AI Robot, SenzE (an eye-controlled communication device for paralysis patients), RingMD EyeCare, and RFID intelligence cabinet solutions.

OMISE
Omise is a payment gateway for Asia, originating in Thailand and providing a “white label” solution to merchants. The company has also introduced OmiseGO (OMG) wallet, a “decentralised wallet solution, focusing on the best customer expeฌrience”.
The company now provides epayment solutions to support telecommunication channels such as True and Dtac. Their technology is a breakthrough that allows interoperability among all wallet systems through the OmiseGO network. It will encourage more wallets to come on the market and drive the country toward a cashless society, while also enabling easier access to financial services for all people, especially those without banks.

AI robot
AI robot, or artificial intelligence robot solution from NTT Data (Thailand), is an AI robot that can automate your routine work, such as invoicing. The office robot automatically carries out your PC operation by learning scenarios of any application software operations that can be conducted from Windows PC, including Excel, browsers and enterprise resource planning (ERP).
Jun Satani, president of NTT Data (Thailand) said that the robot is able to do routine tasks 10 times faster than human workers, and achieve an error rate of zero per cent even with complicated tasks. The price starts at around Bt300,000. It is now available in Thailand. 

SenzE
SenzE  is an eye-controlled communication device for paralysis patients. This solution is the word’s first eyetracking system embedded with Thai software and Asia’s first eye-controlled communicative device for paralysed patients. It utilises an image processing technique including a HD camera and infrared sensor able to detect minor changes in the patient’s eye. The patient just looks at the device and holds for two seconds in the desired position in order to transmit a comฌmand. 
Piyasak Bunkhomrat, managing director of MediTech, said that the firm spent three years to develop SenzE. The solution is able to supฌport 18 languages including Japanese, German, Chinese, English and Thai. Patients can communicate feelings, needs, food and drink preferences, and activities. The solution also comes with a livechat keyboard, which allows for auto translation to local languages. It also has a monitoring system that works through a tablet or smartphone, helping the doctor to track a patient in realtine. 

RingMD Eyecare
RingMD Eyecare is an optician’s office in a portable kit from Singapore. It is a mobile eyecare unit, an optometry kit that fits into a backpack for mobile eye tests in remote, rural areas. Prescriptions can be recorded and life-enhancing eyewear distributed to patients on the spot. 
Daniel Helton, vice president of business development for RingMD EyeCare said that the firm provides a portable kit for use in India and Indonesia. It cooperated with Microsoft to announce that starting this December, the kit will be used in remote areas of Lumpun province to reach people who might not otherwise get good eyecare.

RFID from Identify 
Last, the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) intelligent cabinet solution from Identify provides seamless storage and tracking solutions. The cabinet fully integrates RFID technology with point of use reporting. It provides a realtime inventory at the item level.
As staff remove any devices from the cabinet, the system automatically captures the transaction and emails it to the authorised staff. The system enables the manufacturer to know the stock level at each site and provide a proactive alarm for any expiring items. The system is designed for the healthcare sector and has been implemented at Chulalongkorn hospital. The firm is now developing the intelligence cabinet to support 15 local hospitals for the next step.
